Moin announces candidacy in Iran's presidential election

Tehran, Dec 28, IRNA -- Former minister of science, research and technology Mostafa Moin on Tuesday announced his candidacy in the upcoming presidential election campaign. After a meeting with members of the Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF), he said he accepted the call from the reformist political party for his candidacy.

"The country's problems forced me to avoid giving negative reply to these request and to announce my candidacy for the upcoming presidential election," he said.

Moin said that under the current global situation, it is the time to believe in the people and go ahead with reform.

Citing opinion polls on the presidential election conducted last October and November, he said that it is promising for the reformists indicating that the extent to which the intellectuals and the academics have influence over the people's decisions.

He said that he belongs to a generation who suffered from the corruption of the Pahlavi regime and he has a reserve of experience in administrative affairs he gained since victory of the Islamic Revolution.

He said that he opposes the dependence of the economy on oil revenues and that he believes scientific methods should be adopted to restructure the economy through reliance on the young population of the country.

He expressed concern over outflow of the elite students and promised to enforce attractive plans to stop brain drain."
