Iran Daily: "GC Urged To Promote Extensive Voter Turnout

KERMANSHAH,
Jan. 5--Assembly of Combatant Clerics, the pro-reform political party, on Wednesday called on the Guardians Council to adopt a broader outlook in confirming the qualifications of presidential aspirants.
Speaking at a gathering of ACC members, Rasoul Montajabnia, member of ACCÕs Central Council, said an extensive participation of people in the upcoming presidential election would help consolidate the Islamic Republic, IRNA reported.
ÒThe people's extensive participation in the election would neutralize conspiracies of the countryÕs enemies. That's why all the officials should make efforts to prepare the grounds for a massive turnout in the presidential election,Ó he said.
Noting that the media, especially the press, play a decisive role in encouraging the voter turnout, Montajabnia said, "Those in charge of the media and the press should shoulder greater responsibility toward the election."
Elaborating on ACCÕs platform, Montajabnia said the reform movement is undefeatable and any move willing to stand in the way of the popular movement will fail.
He praised President Mohammad Khatami as an integrated personality and very effective, adding that the tools which the president was expected to use for fulfilling his promises did not work.
Mohammad Baqer Zakeri, also a member of ACCÕs Central Council, said the priority of the next government should be easing the difficulty of people and creating jobs for the youth. ACC has introduced former parliament speaker, Mehdi Karroubi, as its candidate for the presidency.
Karroubi has announced that he will never withdraw his candidacy to the benefit of others."
