LONDON, Jan 9 (IranMania) – “Running a country doesn’t mean selling its oil and spending the revenue.” former Iranian Foreign Minster Ali Akbar Velayati said.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the 2005 presidential aspirant added: “I am going to run in the upcoming presidential elections only out of my responsibility toward the system.”

Velayati who is an adviser for Ayatollah Khamenei in international affairs expressed regret over the administrative and financial corruption reigning in Iran saying: “When all moves are no more than political games and religion is a plaything in the hands of the politicians, then the very principles of religion are attacked. Thus it is better for the next Iranian president to be a religious one.”

As regards economics, Velayati noted that the hands of some governmental managers should be cut short of economic activities so that they cannot collaborate with ‘economy lobbies’ to their own benefit.

Velayati has 16 years of experience in Iran's diplomatic circles. He is rather
experienced in negotiating with the West and has led both peace and war diplomacies. Velayati is a pediatric and has given a somewhat cultural image of himself during his tenure."
