Thursday, December 30, 2004

Did you ever wonder what the allure is of Oriental rugs? Or how to recognize a real one? Or even how to take care of the one you already have?

J. Scott Gregorian, vice president of Arthur T. Gregorian, Inc., of Newton, will answer such questions about Oriental rugs at the Shrewsbury Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

When Scott Gregorian was 10 years old, he traveled to Iran with his father and grandfather to visit Rahvah, his grandfather's birthplace. Immediately, Scott realized that Oriental rugs were in his blood - not simply a personal career or a family business, but his passion.

Arthur T. Gregorian, Inc., has been a Massachusetts institution of international renown for more than 60 years. Some of their finest rugs have been shown in more than 50 locations worldwide, from Marseilles, France, to the ile Museum in Washington, D.C.

Scott will bring some of these priceless examples of a vanishing art with him for all to examine. He will provide an exciting and entertaining introduction to the world of Oriental rugs, covering their history, their design, the materials used to create them, and the exotic culture that produced them. There will be ample time for questions with advice from a leading expert in the field.

The event is free and open to the public. For information, call the library at 508-842-0081."
