Justice Department says four students had been arrested for investigation: "Majlis to impeach Science Minister Moin: press
Tehran, Dec 2, IRNA -- Several Majlis deputies on Sunday submitted a bill to the Presiding Board of the Majlis to impeach Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mostafa Moin, the press reported here Sunday.
The Persian-language 'Resalat' reported that some 20 deputies from the minority faction, who blame Moin for failing to stop the recent student unrest in the country, have prepared the bill.

The deputies have cited the biased policies of science ministry officials toward the death sentence of academic Hashem Aghajari, and their provoking of students to stage rallies to protest the sentence as the main reasons for which they are going to impeach Moin.

Resalat, on its front page, quoted Deputy from Kouhdasht Ali Emami-Rad as voicing regret that certain university deans had quit 'research and study' and had turned campuses into 'rooms of war and devising plots against the system'.

Academic Hashem Aghajari was sentenced to death by a court in the western Iranian city of Hamedan on November 6 for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The death sentence drew sharp angry criticism in Iran, with students staging several days of rally to call on the Judiciary to suspend the ruling.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei accordingly ordered the Judiciary to review the case.

However, Aghajari, in an open challenge to he Judiciary, had so far refused to appeal.

Chief Prosecutor Ayatollah Abdonnabi Namazi last Tuesday cautioned that if Aghajari does not appeal his sentence after the 20-day deadline is over, his court verdict will be final.

Meanwhile, the press reported today that Aghajari's lawyer has filed an appeal on behalf of his client "to prevent any pretext.""
