Fundamentalist Faction declared Ali Larijani as its candidate

Iran Daily: "Fundamentalists Finally Pick Larijani

TEHRAN, March 15--A member of the Majlis fundamentalist faction said on Tuesday the Council for Coordinating the Islamic Revolution’s Forces has declared Ali Larijani as its candidate for the upcoming presidential race.
Speaking to ISNA, Teymour Ali Asgari added, “Head of the council, Ali Akbar Nateq-Nouri, would explain the council’s decision to nominate Larijani in the meeting of General Assembly of Majlis Fundamentalist Faction scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.“
Asgari, an MP from Mashhad and Kalat and a member of Majlis Article 90 Commission, noted that the opinion polls were taken as the final yardstick for selecting the single nominee.
“Larijani is the council’s number one choice in all the surveys conducted nationwide so far. Of course, if later on the results of surveys showed otherwise, the council will take another decision. For the time being, the council has reached consensus over Larijani,“ he said.
Asgari explained that the council did not consider Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in the surveys because he has not officially declared his candidacy. “I believe among all presidential aspirants, Rafsanjani has shown more self-restraint and firmly adhered to political ethics. Currently, the council is not expected to adopt a negative stance toward Rafsanjani,“ he said."
