Iran Daily - Fundamentalists Split Over Larijani

Iran Daily: "Prominent Fundamentalists Stay Away
From Seminar

TEHRAN, March 14--Influential fundamentalists were absent from a seminar held on Sunday by the Select Committee of the Islamic Revolution’s Coordinating Council.
The absence of prominent members from the seminar is attributed to the fact that famous personalities of the Society for Islamic Revolution’s Epic-Makers were not invited, IRNA reported.
The people, who abstained from the seminar, hold key posts in the council.
The two main currents within the fundamentalist camp have agreed to announce the name of their candidate for the ninth presidential election slated for June 17. However, unconfirmed reports indicate the Select Committee has agreed on former head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Ali Larijani, as the council’s candidate.
However, several members of Majlis Fundamentalist Faction in a meeting held at Tehran’s Shahid Mottahari Center discussed the candidacy of two other fundamentalists, Ahmad Tavakkoli and Mohsen Rezaie.
Although Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf were also invited, they did not attend the seminar.
An informed source said Mohammad Reza Bahonar was also appointed head of the Electoral Council of the Islamic Revolution’s Coordination Council."
