MP Akbar Alami to Run For Presidency (Anti-Rafsanjani Platform

TEHRAN, March 13--An MP from Tabriz announced his decision to run in the ninth presidential election slated for June 17.
Akbar Alami told parliamentary reporters that if the head of State Expediency Council, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, were to become a candidate, he will be his main contender, IRNA reported.
Referring to the request of academics since last few months to become a presidential candidate, Alami noted that after taking into consideration other candidates he decided to run for the upcoming election.
"A president who does not belong to a particular faction, is independent and represents people will succeed in fulfilling his agenda," he said.
Alami said maximum voter turnout in the June election will serve the interests of the Islamic system."
