Rafsanjani candidacy would add new dimension to election: Larijani

Candidates should tell the truth: Karrubi: "Rafsanjani candidacy would add new dimension to election: Larijani

Presidential candidate Ali Larijani said on Monday that if the Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani contests the presidential post a significant change will happen in the electoral campaigns.

Speaking in Shahr-e Kurd, the capital of Charmahal Bakhtiyari province, Larijani commented that the Rafsanjani candidacy would lead to the rise of three distinctive competing groups in the elections.

According to recent opinion polls, he said, more than 50 percent of the people are likely to take part in the election.

In a separate meeting with the theology students in the city, Larijani noted that adopting a religious approach toward various issues is very effective.

“Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah (Hezbollah secretary general) defeated the U.S. powerfully in Lebanon,” he said in a reference to the holding of a massive demonstration in Beirut in response to U.S. interference in Lebanon, events which followed the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Harriri."
