Jannati criticizes disqualified candidates for taking Ministry of Interior as Employment Bureau - Irna

Jannati criticizes disqualified candidates for taking Ministry of Interior as Employment Bureau - Irna: "Jannati criticizes disqualified candidates for taking Ministry of Interior as Employment Bureau Tehran, May 27, IRNA

Iran-Prayer-9th Presidential Election
Interim Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said here that while signing up as candidates of presidential election, many jobless individuals by mistake took the Ministry of Interior as the Employment Bureau.

Addressing thousands of worshipers at Tehran University campus, the Secretary of the Guardians Council (GC) reiterated the need to revise the electoral laws to prevent disqualified individuals from signing up at the future elections.

"Given that the laws applicable to the presidential and Majlis elections are improper, the members of parliament should try to revise them," he added.

Confirming the recent order of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei about two of the disqualified candidates, he said that some points are quite obvious and require no additional explanation.

Turning to the process of assessing the candidates qualifications, he said that irrespective of being examined at Majlis, the Presidential Office or GC, the candidates' qualifications should be fully checked to verify whether they comply with all the required pre-qualifications such as being of Iranian origin and a man of politics with firm religious beliefs.

Concerning assessment of the candidates' qualifications and the upcoming presidential election, Jannati said that once GC declares its views on the electoral candidates, the result is not passed on to the Expediency Council.

"If some of the candidates are found disqualified by GC, but their candidacy is still found to the national interests , the GC is not authorized to intervene once more.

"Then instead of being sent to the Expediency Council, the case will be referred to the Supreme Leader who will give the necessary orders to the effect in accordance with his authority," he added.

Regretting over the US improper attitude towards the holy Quran in the Guantanamo prison, he said that it is unfortunate and surprising to see a US soldier insult the holy Quran in order to make a prisoner confess."
